[Kenwood] TS-2000 software control questions

I have a question about the TS-B2000 computer control.
 When I have the virtual front panel loaded up on the
computer, and have all the necessary frequency, mode,
and other things setup for the radio, can I exit the
computer control program and still transmit/receive on
the "Black Box" as long as I stay on the same
frequency?
I ask because my computer is kind of slow, but would
like to get a B2000 set up for some digital modes, and
high speed meteor scatter. Not sure I could run the
control program and some of the digital mode programs
at the same time. Once I got the rig set up, though,
there would be no need to change frequency in meteor
scatter, so I am hoping that i could close the control
program and get WSJT up and going instead.
