Hi Gary - well, I recommend the star washers, they don't
really cut thru the copper but do cut thru that green paint
they tend to paint the boards with which needs to be
penetrated for a good ground. You could use lock-tite
but again there is a possibility that it could travel the threads
onto the board and give an insulation-no ground problem
again. Try the washers first and if that is not sufficient,
then the locktite. I think they use the type that have the
serated points inside the ring - get the ones that have the
serated points on the outside. I mention that because
over here, both types are called star washers.
On the button problem, you might look at the
back of the problem buttons, and I think
they make a contact with conductive membrane
like in a tv remote control or calculator, and if so, use
some de-natured alcohol and a q-tip to clean that
contact surface. Over time, whatever is in the air
or on the fingers (oil) will make its way there in
minute amounts and causes some intermittent contacts.
When you use the alcohol, it removes the culprit while
immediately drying with no residue - hence the
recommendation of the de-natured type.
73 and hope that helps a bit.
