[Kenwood] TS-850 Problem

My 7-year old TS-850 suddenly died. The display shows all segments lit, but
very, very dim. None of the controls have any effect. There is no smoke or
smell, and the DC input current is normal at 1-2 amps. All external devices
are disconnected.
I tried a CPU reset with no effect. I checked the battery which still
measured about 3 volts. There was some minor corrosion on the battery, so I
removed it, cleaned up the board and continuity checked those few traces
that had evidence of corrosion (all were good). I installed a new battery,
but remoted it from the board. I have also checked the 5, 8 and 13 volts
points on the Digital Board and find them all good.
Has anyone seen this behavior in their TS-850 or have any specific tests
that I can make?
