I have one, and have no problems with it.
It seems easy to use, with the possible exception of the stacked
"multi-function" and volume controls on top. For big-fingered folks like me,
it is easy to knock it off frequency when adjusting volume, or change volume
when adjusting squelch. I use the PC program (MCP-F6/F7) to store memories,
this seems easier to me than using those tiny buttons.
It has pre-configured repeater offsets, or can do any sort of odd splits
except cross-band. You probably could cross-band by using the "B" receiver
in dual mode, but I've not tried this. When storing odd splits, you just
store both xmt and rcv frequencies into a single memory channel instead of
storing just the receive frequency and an offset direction.
I get great signal reports, folks say the audio sounds great. The mike and
speaker are amazingly clear for such a tiny thing.
One cool feature I have not used yet is "ASC" (automatic Simplex Check).
It's supposed to tell you if the other guy you're talking to on the repeater
is within simplex range. Maybe someone else has used this and can comment?
It gets *very* warm when transmitting at 5 watts for a while. Makes a great
winter handwarmer. :-)
