Neal,
Thank you very much for putting together "Step By Step"
instructions for successfully installing DXBase 2007 on Windows
7. Based on the "private emails" I received, I would expect there
will be many people wanting to download those instructions. While
the blog might be "OK," a PDF file that can be downloaded from
your website - maybe the DXBase 2007 page - might be even better.
That would allow for easy download and printing and be
encouragement for new buyers/users.
Jack, I am not exactly sure how to interpret your comments. If
you are suggesting that people want "poetic license" about how to
"tweek" their computer, I would say that might apply to people
that have "computer tweeking" as a hobby. However, I think there
are many of us that just want DXBase 2007 to work correctly on
Windows 7 without a lot of personal pain. If you are saying there
can't be standard instructions because there can't be a "common
starting point," then I think the condition of DXBase 2007 is
much worse then I am led to believe in terms of "working" on
Windows 7. I am hoping that is not the case - and I am hopeful
that Neal can do what he has suggested - despite your doubts.
Neal, since it appears that there won't be a "native" Windows 7
version of DXBase for quite a while, it certainly seems that an
investment in time to create a set of installation instructions
for DXBase 2007 on Windows 7 is good for the current users and
good for the new sales of the product. As was suggested, the more
you can write the instructions for a "user," rather then for a
"systems programmer," the more likely it is that everyone will be
able to successfully follow the instructions. I really
appreciate your willingness to do this and I look forward to
being able to use the instructions.
Thanks, Merle - W0EWM
