I have solved the problems with my QSL Card templates. With the help of
Joe, WA6AXE we kicked some ideas around and sorted out what caused my
issues. So, in case someone else bumps into the same little problems here is
what was found.
First my setup, I have 5 QSL Card templates c/w graphics and images which I
print right from DXBase when I need to send cards. In my collection of
templates I can also print blank cards, eyeball cards and even business type
cards for my wife (Don't worry Neal she is also a Ham licensed to use DXB).
In short the use for the QSL card designer is endless, a great utility
indeed.
When I imported my card templates, two issues cropped up. First most text or
'variables' like CALL or OPCALL would not CENTER in the correct locations on
the card after the import. The fix was simple, in the 'Mini Toolbox' select
properties and change 'Line Wrap' from 'TRUNCATE' to 'WRAP'. It seem that
'Truncate' may not work the same way as the previous card design program
with some card layouts.
Next problem was the card preview in DXBase|Output|User Design Labels >>
'Preview to screen'. Some of my images and logos looked terrible on the
screen, yet they all printed just great. It seems that all logos and images
are not created equally. Some worked, some didn't. Again, the fix is easy.
For those images that did not display correctly I was able to re-save the
work as a .PNG image or in some cases just re-saving the busted images using
Microsoft's little Paint program solved the problem. Everything now looks
good in both screen preview and print.
For those using QSL Card templates I would suggest going through each OBJECT
one at a time and check the properties and print a few trial cards. Joe
mentioned with his templates he had NO issues. With mine, I found about 1/2
of them with a few unexpected layout issues or preview problems. All these
issues were very easily fixed.
The new List and Label (Combat) program that DXBase uses is great. If you
have never used L&L I suggest giving it a try. Neal, thanks for the great
upgrade to this part of DXBase.
