Steve,
Refdata.mdb in version 2007 and earlier contains your various prefix, state,
county, country, manager, and various other database files that are all used
within DXbase. The file name stands for "reference" data. The n4jqq.mdb
contains your actual QSO database along with associated statistic tables.
As for the questions about file dates, I think you would be better served to
just invite one of your local computer geeks over and get some first hand
tutoring about how your particular computer deals with its file structure.
As a general rule, whenever a file is accessed for "write" access, the
date/time is changed, but perhaps your machine operates differently...
