[Dxbase] Backup backup backup

I've been using a different backup scheme that is just working beautifully
for me, but it does require reliable Internet connectivity and some
understanding of how this functions.
The core technology to this is a service called Dropbox (www.dropbox.com).
Dropbox is an online backup service, but it also offers a free 2GB account,
which is more than enough for DX Base and all my other Ham apps. Once you've
installed the "My Dropbox" folder inside your "My Documents" folder (the
default location) you can put files/folders/etc inside it and your computer
sees it as just another folder. However, it is now synchronized across the
Internet to a remote storage location, with a full copy on your hard drive.
If you lose Internet connectivity, you change the local version of the file,
which then synchronizes with the remote version the next time you're on the
'Net.
To make this work with DX Base, you could set up DX Base so that it looks
for the database in the default locations at first but then change the
folder (using Tools, Options, User Options, Prompts-at-startup,
Database-and-field-order checked then re-start the program with the "My
dropbox" DX Base folder selected for the location of your .mdb files.
I'm not sure if this would work to synchronize changes made by two or more
computers to the same .mdb file, but it might be worth experimenting with.
In any event, this is a free and extremely reliable way to backup all your
DX Base files and have them accessible from any PC, anywhere in the world.
If you like Dropbox and want to use it for more than 2GB of data they also
offer paid plans as well. After a brief trial, I now rely on Dropbox to
safely store (and backup simultaneously) my entire DX Base installation as
well as my N1MM installation and several other Ham-related folders.

I know it's too late to help you...but the best thing you can ever do....
backup your .mdb files.
And DXBase has a way to do it for you....
Got to the DXBase Program group
Select the DXB Utility option
Select File Backup from the left side choices.
I use a stick drive J:\DXBASE
You want to save all your .mdb files...
It isn't hard, but you must do it manualy.
I tried to have Windows Scheduler but didn't seem to work right.
Now there are some cheap even free, automatic offsite backup systems.
Trust me, I've lost my stuff, backups saved my ...butt!

Why is it that when you're driving and looking for an address, you turn down
the volume on the radio?
