A recent google search came up with an article on installing non Vista
compliant program came up with this info.
Maybe someone can give it a try. I don't have Vista.
PC Magazine, Vista Made Easy: 50 tips and tricks
It was suggested that Vista users login to the account whose name
is "Administrator".
As the "Vista made easy" article points out, the
phrase "Administrator account" has two independent meanings, and thus
is ambiguous:
"...there are two kinds of user accounts, Administrator and Standard.
This refers to the level of privileges -t he things you're allowed to
do. In addition, and separately, there is an account named
Administrator."
An account whose "kind" is Standard does not have the privileges
required to install some Legacy programs. An account whose "kind" is
Administrator
does not have the the required privileges either. Only the account
whose name is "Administrator" has the privileges required to install
a program like DxBase in c:\program files .
In case this isn't sufficiently confusing, the account whose name
is "Administrator" doesn't appear in the User Accounts control panel,
as it is by default disabled. To enab;e the account whose name
is "Administrator" so you can login with its privileges
- In Vista Ultimate or Business editions, right-click Computer and
click Manage. Under Local Users and Groups, open Users, and right-
click the one named Administrator, and select Properties.
Uncheck "Account is disabled" and, and the account whose name
is "Administrator" will appear in the User Accounts control panel.
- In other editions, click Start, type cmd, right-click the cmd.exe
item at top, and choose "Run as administrator". Type
net user administrator /active:yes
and log off. The account whose name is "Administrator" will now
appear on the welcome screen.
