To all:
If the method you use in DXCC Award module is working for you,
please ignore this email.
After working with Peter W2IRT and Joe K8FC, I can see that there
are roughly 3 scenarios that the DXbase user has available - depending
upon WHAT they have as THEIR priority - they are as follows:
*** LOTW is the first priority ------
(1) If the user's "priority" is to always have LOTW as the "first"
priority, then they would run/compute the DXCC Award module with the
LoTW Radio button active on the FIRST run-thru (being sure to setup
ALL of the "QSO Record Filters" as appropriate) ... say YES to the
all-important question .. print-out the Worksheet and go to the
LoTW website and key-in the qso's that you want to have LoTW
credit for on this submission - which are the qsos listed on the
worksheet ..
THEN - go back into the DXCC Award module and this time, activate
the Cards radio button - and also be sure to activate the "Exclude
previous Submission" category... This run/compute will pick-up any
left-over QSOs that are to be credited with a hard-copy "Card" ...
again say YES to the all-important question .. and this time you can go
straight to the QSO Form button - since the DXCCFORM database now
contains ONLY CARD submissions (for the Card checker) ...
*** CARDs is the first priority ------
(1) If the user's "priority" is to always have CARDs as the "first"
priority, then they would run/compute the DXCC Award module with the
"Cards only" Radio button active on the FIRST run-thru (being sure to
setup ALL of the "QSO Record Filters" as appropriate) ... say YES to the
all-important question .. go straight to the QSO Form button - since the
DXCCFORM database now contains ONLY CARD submissions (for the Card
checker) ... print the QSO Form.
THEN - go back into the DXCC Award module and this time, activate
the "LoTW only" radio button - and also be sure to activate the "Exclude
previous Submission" category... This run/compute will pick-up any
left-over QSOs that are to be credited via LoTW ... again say YES to the
all-important question .. and this time print-out the "Worksheet" and go
to the LoTW website and key-in the qso's that you want to have LoTW
credit for on this submission - which are the qsos listed on the
worksheet ..
*** Use the "Both" Radio Button and take what the Award module
calculates !! ***
(1) In this scenario, the user sets-up the Award module "QSO Record
Filters" as appropriate - and activates the "Both" Radio Button ...
With this scenario, there is no "priority" during the computer/run - the
user accepts whatever the module computes. The "Priority" selection will
come later on when the user "Prints-out" the "QSO Form" report.
Using the "Both" radio button gathers in CARDS and also LOTW in one
computer-run. Once you have computed the run, you would go to the
"Worksheet" button and (USING Joe's "new version" of the Dxccwks.rpt -
this is the report file that is activated when you press the "Worksheet"
button in the awards module) you would execute the "Worksheet" button
and when the report "first opens up" - you will have 1 OPTION available
to select from.
Highlight QSOs (No or Yes)
Select "Yes" and say OK ... the "Worksheet" is no available (WITH the
"BOTH" category of QSOs highlighted in Yellow-color; and, the
"LoTW only" category highlighted in Blue-color..
Now - if the user's PRIORITY is to have LOTW as the first priority,
they would take the "Worksheet" to the LoTW website and key-in the
Yellow "and" Blue colored QSOs from the worksheet..
If the user's PRIORITY is to have CARDs as the first priority,
they would take the "Worksheet" to the LoTW website and key-in
ONLY the Blue colored QSOs from the worksheet.
Then - once the LoTW website inputs are done, you would go back into
the Awards module and go straight to the "QSO Form" button
-- and this time (USING Joe's "new version" of the Dxccqso.rpt -
which is the report file that is activated when you press the "QSO
Form..." button in the awards module) - you would execute the "QSO
Form..." button and when the report "first opens up" - you will have
3 OPTIONS available to select from.
Standard/Regular
Radio Button 'Both' -> BOTH = CARD
Radio Button 'Both' -> BOTH = LOTW
"If" the user's PRIORITY was CARDs - then they would select the
Radio Button 'Both' -> BOTH = CARD "option"... what this selection does,
when the report prints-out, is the "LoTW only" QSOs are "suppressed"
from the report itself.. leaving ONLY the CARD category and the BOTH
category ofQSOs, which are to be taken to the Card Checker.
"If" the user's PRIORITY was LoTW - then they would select the
Radio Button 'Both' -> BOTH = LOTW "option"... what this selection does,
when the report prints-out, is the LoTW only "and" BOTH category of
QSOs are "suppressed" from the report itself. again, leaving ONLY
the CARD category of QSOs - which are to be printed to the report and
taken to the Card checker.
NOTE: in the above 2 new reports (which I have only sent to 2 users),
the OPTION of "Standard/Regular" - allows the user to have the
report output "exactly" as it is "right-now" -- nothing is
suppressed. Also, the OPTION of "Highlight QSOs" - answering
"No" - the report looks exactly as it does with the current
report... I wanted BOTH of the new reports to act exactly as
current reports do - for the sake of the users who DO NOT use
the "BOTH" radio button..
Again - as I said above - if your method works for you - super!!
Stay with that method!
I only wanted to provide the above information as "food-for-thought" -
and, that the "Both" radio button CAN be used without any problems.
For the 2 users who I have sent the new reports to - they are very
happy with the outcome.
73 fer nw,
Joe WA6AXE
