[Dxbase] Seeing Radio

I asked this question a couple weeks ago and never saw a response so though
I would try something different. (Come to think of it not sure I ever saw
the original post, but it was in HTML and not plain text.)
Anyway, how does DXB use to determine if the radio is connected and running?
I'm asking because sometimes I will turn on the radio, a Mark V, and then
start DXB. It will come back and say that it is unable to communicate with
the radio and will turn off the communication. (Which I wish it would give
you a choice whether you want to do that or not.) Unfortunately I have to
select OK and then go into User Options and turn it back on and it works
fine.
Often I will start DXB without the radio turned on so I can check something
in the log or to add any confirmed QSOs. There DXB never "says" a word and
the radio is off.
So what gives? Sometimes DXB doesn't see the radio when the radio is on and
wants to disconnect and other times when the radio is not even on DXB does
nothing but start. It seems to me that DXB should check only if you try to
communicate with the radio. For instance, you find a spot on the internet
and want to go there. Now if DXB can't talk to the radio then it should
"fuss". Even then I think you should be given the option to turn off the
communication or not.

Bob
