Bob,
Interfacing with a radio is not rocket science, but it does require a 
methodical approach when problems occur.
1. Is the cable between the radio's interface and the serial port working. 
You'd be amazed how many people automatically say, Oh yes, its fine only to 
find after lots of agony that the cable was defective.
2. Is the radio set to a fixed baud rate? Many radios allow for something 
they call autobaud detection, but this isn't compatible with DXbase. Set a 
fixed baud rate in the radio.
3. Are the user options in DXbase in agreement with your radio?
4. Most radios require cts checked. Some need dtr as well.
5. Do you have the options set under the log tab to use the radio?
6. Is some other device using the same port? This is a no no.
7. Do you have more than one device trying to use the same IRQ. This is a 
no no.
If you are absolutely certain the issue is not one of the above, then its 
time to start looking at hardware. Maybe the interface in your radio is 
broke. Maybe your serial port is broke. Maybe your level control box, if 
one is used, is broke.
