I think you pretty well understand how things work. When this new
capability was designed, we had to choose something in terms of priority and
so we took what the original enhancement request asked for. That was All
time, Band, Mode. So if its a new band, that's what gets displayed and if
not, then if its a new mode then that gets displayed, or the default of B/M.
If you only need three missing CW countries, I suspect you have them
memorized and would never miss them. You probably dream about them in your
sleep....hihi...

I think you just found a problem with DXBase 2005. I agree with you that
New Mode should take precidence over New Band. As best as I can test, a new
mode post doesn't come up unless it is not a new band QSO. IMO this is
backwards! Unless I'm missing a setting or something there is no setting
that will give me new mode if it is also a new band.
Here's an example of the importance of new mode. I have 333 Mixed DXCC
entities. I have 330 CW DXCC entities. I need to see posts for my 3
missing CW countries. I don't want these posts lost among new band
countries that I may choose to ignore. Currently there is no way I can do
this. Someone please tell me I'm wrong on this. Tell me the secret setting
to fix this!

I like the new colored Need column in the DX window. But I would have
programmed it differently. For example, if I have a country confirmed on 20
meter phone but not on 15 and not on CW (any band). When a spot comes in
on 15 meter CW it is marked as a new band. I would have marked it as a new
mode.
LOTW is going to start allowing credits which will also be great.
