I have a junk version of DXBase 2004 that I can use to play with and did
some tests on changes to the DXB2004.ini file. Here's what I did:
1) Copyied the unmodified DXB2004.ini file into a spreadsheet in column A.
2) Made a bunch of changes in DXBase 2004, including window size, window
position, background colors and font colors.
3) Copied the new DXB2004.ini file into the spreadsheet in column B.
4) Using formulas compared the 2 columns.
I wound up with 9 changes out of 1,105 line in the file. The changes were
as follows:
Original DXB2004.ini file
Line#
79 DXINTAB=4
342 TextColor=0 255 0
349 Interior=0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
479 TextColor=0 255 0
486 Interior=0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
720 MRUDockBottomPos=85
732 MRUHorzDockCY=80
750 MRUDockBottomPos=85
762 MRUHorzDockCY=80
DXB2004.ini file after changes
Line#
79 DXINTAB=0
342 TextColor=0 0 0
349 Interior=0 0 192 192 192 192 192 192 0
479 TextColor=0 0 0
486 Interior=0 0 192 192 192 192 192 192 0
720 MRUDockBottomPos=53
732 MRUHorzDockCY=48
750 MRUDockBottomPos=53
762 MRUHorzDockCY=48
I then copied the original DXB2004.ini file back to the Windows directory.
I got all of my original colors back and some of the window sizes and
positions back. I conclude it would be helpful in doing this to preserve
colors and fonts which I consider the toughest part of setting up DXBase.
The window size part is fairly easy to fix. Of course this would only work
within the same version of DXBase. So when DXBase 2005 comes out we'll
probably have to start from scratch.
