[DXBase] Internet Packet

Thanks Clark,
That was the problem. I actually started turning things off the last =
night
and found that when I turned the "announce" off, the problem went away. =
I'm
not sure if I have it turned on in my old 2003 version, but it didn't
exhibit the same problem. Without the speakers I didn't notice that the
announce was on and certainly have no reason to have it enabled.
I guess that the "announce feature" must use up a lot of the resources =
of
the computer because it would crash in no time. I guess my rule of thumb
will be to keep the announce feature turned off. I have been using =
DXBase
since its inception as a DOS program, and it is getting pretty =
complicated
these days.
Thanks,
Bill, W5VX

Bill,
 Could it be that you have DXBase 2004 trying to "announce" the =
packet=20
spots in voice? If so, that will really slow it down. When the spots =
are=20
coming in as fast as they do in the contest, the computer just doesn't=20
"speak" fast enough to keep up. I can't remember what the setting is =
but=20
you can certainly find where you can turn off the voice=20
announcements. Remember, just muting the speaker does not do it, you =
have=20
to turn off the function of making the announcements.
