Just curious. Try opening IE, Internet Explorer.
See if that works.
If it doesn't, try using the Connections Tab of Tools, Internet Options to
set up a Dialup.
You don't have to make IE your default browser but this may be a clue.
I think there called 'sockets', little apps that control the connection
method.
As you were not using MS apps, XP may not have created them during upgrade.
I may be confusing this with something else but I THOUGHT I read that was a
portion of the legal judgments.
