I would suggest selling a yearly subscription-based renewal, during which
time you don't pay for incremental upgrades. Then once the new release
comes out you pay a modest fee for the program update and optionally
another year of free downloadable updates. I would *happily* pay more than
I pay now for that service, but in reality, most generalized PC software
doesn't charge for the usual incremental upgrades that show up weekly or
monthly. They just charge when they go up a number (3.4 to 3.5 free, but
3.5 to 4.0 is charged). I guess with such a specialized product and limited
consumer base that model wouldn't play out here. At least I hope they
consider releasing patches and bugfixes and incremental updates somehow. I
don't like the once-a-year model that exists now.
