[DXBase] Support for Yaesu FT-1000MP Mark V

Hi Ramon,
To the best of our knowledge, the FT10000MP Mark V works fine in DXbase 2003
by selecting the FT1000MP choice in user options and configuring the
associated options.
I'm not sure what unanswered questions you refer to. We try to respond to
any that are asked of us and we don't have anything unanswered that we know
about?
Your comments about new radios is interesting and strikes at our biggest
problem in the area of software development. We speak from time to time
with competitors and I can tell you that with few exceptions, the makers of
logging software are just as frustrated as our many customers when it comes
to new radios and the outright absurdity that goes on when the makers of
radios design the RS232 interface for each radio. Some manufacturer's are
better than others, but they are all quilty of changing their interfaces
with no reason whatsoever except for the sake of change. No new
functionality in the interface, just different command structures.
It's a vicious cycle every year. New radios are offered, hams go buy them
without considering the RS232 interface requirements and their logging
software, then the emails to all makers of logging software start to fly.
When will you support such and such. Well, I must respectfully ask, why do
we all put up with this. Why don't we just simply refuse to purchase these
new radios unless their RS232 interface is standard and consistent??? Until
and unless we begin to put pressure on the makers of these radios, this
vicious cycle will never end and we will all continue to go through a rather
absurd process. Just my opinion. I for one will never purchase a new radio
unless the RS232 interface is standard and consistent.
We have engaged in discussion with the makers of most radios about this
problem area. The answer was nearly the same from each. The engineers who
are charged with designing the radio consider the RS232 interface to be
their own testing mechanism for allowing computer software that they write
to be able to test the design of their radio. They are free to design the
RS232 in any manner that they want. So, its no wonder that each new radio
brings a brand new set of interface requirements. Put five engineers in a
room and you'll get five different designs. The radio manufacturers don't
consider the RS232 interface to be a user feature. It's left in the radio,
as is, based on whatever their design team needed to test. We know of at
least a dozen software makers who have gone down the same path and heard the
same thing. If you are like us and you are sick of this, then we encourage
you to let the makers of radios know that the functionality of their RS232
interface is an important aspect of the radio and will influence your buying
decision. It takes only a few minutes to send them a letter or an email and
tell them to take this issue seriously. Sorry to get on my soapbox, but
this one is near and dear.. haha..
Jack
