Success......
I notice all but one response out of six responded just to me. I believe
it is in the best interest of the reflector to respond in such a manner
that everyone sees it. Two of the messages were from others that needed
help as well and did not receive those just addressed to me.
So here's my final solution such as it is.....
It's been said more than once in the docs to backup you log file. In my
case if I screwed up the file I'd have to re-enter nearly 5000 QSOs.
First I'd like to thank all those who e-mail.
Other than not having the most recent import.exe my problem was cockpit
error. After I ran the import.exe program and selected mycall.mdb I did
not realize that in the Import window I had to maximize it or scroll
down to see the source data input field. After I did that and selected
my .adi file and selected begin import from the tool bar everything
worked just fine.
First, if you haven't already done so, retrieve the updated version of
the import.exe program from the DXbase website. Replace the old
import.exe file in your DXbase 2003 subdirectory with the new one.
I'll try to move through the whole process I did from exporting the ADIF
file in DXbase 5 to importing it into DXbase 2003.
In the DXbase 5 folder select import.bat
From this window scroll down to export and press enter. This will
convert the data in your XXXXX.log file to and ADIF file called
XXXXX.adi. (your .log file is uneffected)
To make things easier for me I copied the XXXXX.adi file into the DXbase
2003 folder. It'll make sense later.
From the DXbase folder run the new import.exe file. This will bring up
the Target Database window.
Select the XXXX.mdb file that has your call on it. It should now appear
in the File name: window. Next select Open.
From the import window select file type and select ADIF
Scroll down to see the Source Database File window and click on the
little square at the end of the window.
From the Select Source Database window select the XXXXX.adi file you
generated from DXbase 5.
Lastly Click on the Green square in the toolbar or select import and
click on begin import. With a large log it will take a few minutes to
convert.
You will have to work out any errors during the import process yourself.
I had a few which I had to go back to DXbase 5 and sort out times and
dupe log file inputs and enter them into DXbase 2003's new log.
I appologize for any omissions or mistakes or any bum dope but this was
pretty well done on the fly. Any criticism is welcome.
Lastly to those who responded. Maybe some of you should read my message
again. I believe I requested a detailed description of how the process
is done. The above dialogue was what I really was looking for. The info
regarding the updated import.exe file was appreciated.
