Hi, I must admit that I have had similar occurences, but I'm using Windows
2000 Pro, and when this happened, there were no CW or Sound in activity. It
just happened one in about 100 start/stop.

Tony,
This is not necessarily a DXbase issue. We've seen some reports to MS about
some applications not closing down but nothing that exactly fits the symptom
you report. The symptom you describe might occur on XP because of the way
it treats certain background activities spawned by a parent application. In
the case of DXbase, we run many separate processes to control internet
activity, sound playing, CW, etc.... If at the time you close DXbase, there
is activity going on with any of those features, there is a chance that XP
gets confused because it loses the association with the process that was
running and the main app which is now terminated. It's like a stranded
child ( I guess ). We've not seen this to be an issue with other MS
operating systems, only XP. And, even with XP, we have not seen it to be an
issue if there are no CW or sound files playing, and if the internet window
is closed prior to closing DXbase.
In Phil's situation, there are so many possible issues at play right now in
his system and setup, that he may see something more pronounced, but hard to
say for sure. If it is true that some other software has installed a later
version of DriverX than ours, it well could be that the OS associates DXbase
with the version of DriverX that is running rather than loading ours, but
since it is a later version than ours, it may be that DXbase cannot close it
down and thus it remains associated with DXbase and thus XP reports this at
shutdown. Just a guess. We obviously have no crystal ball and cannot look
into a persons PC setup and associated software installations, their HF
radio configuration, etc.... so there are a lot of possible issues outside
the control of DXbase.
Regards,
Jack
