Hi Charles,
Funny you should ask... <g> Last week a couple of the developers asked me
to investigate our options for doing this and let me tell you, it hasn't
been easy, but I'm muddling through it. We'd certainly like to respond
favorably somehow, we just haven't figured out the right mechanism to
balance the desire to "play" with a demo, and the need to insure that the
prospective user will at least read enough of the help file to understand
what it is that he has at his/her disposal. There is also a desire to avoid
opening ourselves up to support calls from prospective, but non paying
individuals who won't read the help files because "they are just looking and
don't what to spend much time on it". We don't think that paying customers
should have to foot the bill for the support issues of non paying customers.
And of course, there are the plain mechanics of a file download size of
about 30 megabytes. Experience shows that only those with high speed
internet access could successfully download this. Most hams don't have high
speed internet access. So, all that to simply say, it's really not an issue
of Jack or anyone else not wanting to give customers what they want, it's
more a question of can it be done in a manner that actually works better
than what we already do. We're looking into it.
Thanks,
Courtney
