[DXBase] DXbase 2003 Status Information

Hi Folks,
Thought we would take a minute to give you some information. Judging from
large number of emails I've been getting, there is a lot of interest in
"what's next" for DXbase.
We've been in a enhancement development mode for a long time. We started
back in September 2001 doing work on DXbase 2003. There have been 6
different beta releases and a large number of new features and improvements
to old ones. Our beta test team has once again been "best in the business"
and their attention to detail and individual expertise with certain parts of
DXbase has yielded some very valuable improvements. Our final beta has been
in use by the beta team for about ten days and thusfar we have a green light
from them.
We have not yet established a release date, but we are working that out.
We're shooting for the first part of May. When that is determined, we will
update our web site with details and also with specific info about the
release content. As in past years, we have scrutinized every single
enhancement request made to us and we have strived to include your input.
We've also reviewed most of the reflector postings and tried to look for
ways to minimize any issues that seem to appear from time to time. I think
we've been very successful and feel sure that you'll be pleased.
Look for features such as new mapping capabilities provided through a direct
seamless interface to DX Atlas ( a third party product that you can obtain
via web download from its author. You'll easily be able to display grayline
maps and plot DX stations on a world map with zooming. New interface to the
GoList Windows interface and removal of the obsolete DOS interface.
Elimination of the driver requirement for rotor interface thus allowing more
of the newer comport types to work easily. Previous QSO module allows
editing the fields. US County tracking and statistics, expanded prefix
mapping, expanded label grouping options, expanded call sign alerts,
improved CDROM lookups, ADIF exports with filtering options, expanded
options for using an address CDROM, new capabilities to produce graphs and
charts using the user designed report module, new support for the ARSWIN
rotor control software, expanded baud rates and comports up to com18, and a
whole lot of other improvements. More later.
In the coming weeks, we'll be updating our web site with all the
particulars. Meanwhile, we're not quite ready to answer questions but
wanted to give you some up front info. By the way, for those who are
concerned about US counties, be ware that we have eliminated all the Alaskan
counties previously listed in past versions of DXbase and replaced them with
the four AK districts... CENTRAL, NORTH-WEST, SOUTH-CENTRAL, and SOUTH-EAST.
You may want to edit your QSOs with AK counties in 2002 now to reflect only
these entries so that when importing later, this information will be
accepted.
