[DXBase] DXBase 2002 and exporting

Hi Greg,
The cabrillo file format was designed specifically for contest operation (
nothing else ). The required data in a cabrillo file format consists of
contest specific information such as contest name, operator(s), contest
exchanges, multipliers( sometimes I think ), contest claimed score, etc...
A portion of this "required" data is not produced in a general logging
program, such as contest scoring information). As such, if you intend to
operate a contest and submit a log, you really should use a contest software
program for this purpose. Contests require software functionality be
designed in an entirely different manner than what general logging programs
require. Cabrillo file formats is just one example.
All contest programs provide for ADIF export so that you can easily get your
contest data into a general logging program. The typical scenario would be
to operate the contest using a contest software program, create the cabrillo
file for your log submission to the contest sponsor, export to ADIF using
the tools in the contest program, and import ADIF using the tools of the
general logging program. This is by far the easiest and most accurate
solution.
Alternatively, you can locate some of the software utilities around and
reformat files etc... and then manually edit them to get all the missing
data into them. As you have already stated, this is a chore.
We do plan to include an ADIF export option in the next release of DXbase.
However, the utility developed by Cosme already provides you with this
capability today and as you know, his work is very good and his utility
produces very nice results.
Regards,
Courtney
