That Bud Frohardt, W9DY, who was the inspiration for the Famous Elmer 
article written by Rod Newkirk in his How's DX pages of QST has passed away.
W9DY who went by the name of 'Bud' but whose given name was indeed Elmer.
Bud, mentored dozens of youngsters and oldsters alike. Never to busy to 
take a phone call or help a novice such as I with a problem. I remember 
that Bud had a little Kelsey Letter Press and would print up the first 
100 qsls for each youngster he mentored upon obtaining their General.
Bud was in a retirement home in Wisconsin and would attend a local Ham 
Club meeting occasionally when up to it.
Now a Silent Key.
