I know it’s kind of off topic, but I know that we have some Japanese readers on this reflector and hopefully they will forward this to the right people.
I have been “hunting” for my missing “slots” for Minami Torishima for quite some time now, and also tried to find as much information as possible.
It is even mentioned on Wikipedia, that just hams, who are employed by the Japanese Weather Service are allowed to operate from Minami.
So this is obviously the reason that there never was a full blown DXpedition there, unlike from the other JD1, Ogasawara, which is becoming daily DX sometimes.
Take, JG8NQJ, is sure doing a fine job there, and tries to be active as much possible. His signal is not always the strongest, so maybe there is some way to make improvements antenna-wise, or power. He is temporarily QRT and will be back on the island in the middle of June 2014. As there is no email connectivity listed for the operator and the QSL-manager, I am using this way now to maybe get something rolling before he returns to the island.
Also, Minami is very much needed on RTTY. Maybe there is a way to get some information to Take on how to operate RTTY, albeit there will be a huge demand, which might discourage him right at the beginning, I am afraid. Also, is the necessary hardware available to operate RTTY, i.e. digital interface?
To the Japanese friends on this reflector I have the big appeal to translate and forward this into the right Japanese channels so maybe something can be done before Take returns to the island in June. And the sunspot number will go down, so if we would like to work him on 10m, we cannot wait for two or three more years. You can guess now, that I need Minami on 10m and in the mode RTTY, hi.
