>From my brief stint as a CY0AA op back in 1996, I don't recall, with 3
exceptions, any undue stress from the hoards. Most times it was up to me to
give instruction periodically (5-10 up, North or South America, or number 3
in the call, etc...). The most challenging was the Asian regions. We were
#4 needed there, and had marginal propagation to boot. They were still for
the most part orderly. The calls were mostly the same length which helped.
The Europeans were MUCH stronger and therefore more formidable to control
since only one station out of sync could block out many stations. In my
estimation though, it wasn't the sync'ing that was key (since the US went
very smoothly), it was my control of the pile to keep it orderly and to my
specs that kept the Q rates up.
One other thing...
My call WA8JOC is a LOT longer to get across than is XX8X. Sometimes not
rhythm, but length is a challenge also.
