Well, whenever I've done that at ham conventions, (last 5 years) the ARRL 
checker has preferred to put my credit card thro' his machine at the time of 
checking. But if you're worried, why not take both cash and credit card with 
you?
The usual routine here is. You hand over your form and cards to the checker 
(put them all in an envelope with your callsign on it!) The checker gives 
you a numbered ticket and you collect and pay a few hours later YMMV.
