Does anyone know what happened to Fr Morans logs, or if they are lost
forever? It would be sad to think all those logs are forever lost to
history. I cannot imagine the numbers of logs he passed on to Ed N7EB, his
manager of the day. Both are now SK.
I had a 15 meter contact that the logs here show was confirmed, but am
unable to locate the card. I sent another off to Ed, shortly before he
became a SK so never got a replacement. Over the years, I had hundreds of
contacts with Fr Moran, often for conversations that lasted a half our or
more at a time. He was a regular check in with the W7PHO group (With me
sitting in Hong Kong) , and he and I would arrive on freq an hour or more
before Bill showed to run the chat net. One memorable QSO was when I lived
in Athens, and had just built and erected a 15 meter ZLspecial antenna. I
heard Moran fielding a pileup, swung the antenna his direction, called once,
and he came immediately back to me. He wanted to chat, so we did, for the
next 10 minutes or so, with a huffing puffing mass of Europeans standing
by. Back then, there was some courtesy toward the wishes the of DX.
Moran was truly one of the giants of ham radio. And I miss even our
limited US to Nepal contacts but feel blessed with those we had. RIP Moran.
