The statement 
"today is the Orthodox Christmas"
applies to Orthodox congregations that still observe 
Julian Calendar like Serbs, Russians and certainly 
Mount Athos itself.
Some other Orthodox congregations observe Gregorian
Calendar like Greeks.

Thanks to all who replied. The unanimous opinion is to send 2ドル. BTW, I
note that today is the Orthodox Christmas. Perhaps that explains why he
was on for several hours this morning.
