A few folks sent me a note direct about this. So here goes...
If you'd like to try my Microsoft Office templates for QSLs, please read the
following:
- you must save BOTH the Word AND Excel files in a directory FIRST
- you must copy/paste into the Excel file first with the contacts you want
to print QSLs for
- then open the Word file and edit with your call and QTH
- do a 'mail merge' to the Excel sheet (the result will show you a single
QSL card)
- eventually, you'll click on "Finish" and complete the mail merge
- IMPORTANT, don't click the 'print icon'... this won't work; neither will
selecting four sheets per page here
- click file/print and change the printer properties to 'landscape' and '4
pages per page'
- click "ok" to print
- use a paper cutter to trim them to standard size
...now

I'm currently printing "plain cards" on my HP Laser Jet (black ink on
colored paper). That gets me 4 cards per sheet. There are some nuances
about getting landscape printing to give you four quadrants if you're using
a QSL template... which I am.
The reason I replied is that I've got a QSL template for Word that enables
you to take an Excel CSV of your log (the QSOs you want to generate cards
for) and send it to the printer to automatically generate 4 contacts (QSLs)
per sheet.
I can post this template on my website, if folks are interested. I don't
think I'm printing fancy color cards anymore. Most DX stations get plenty
of impressive color cards from us hams here in the US.

Been meaning to ask around about this and now seems to be a good time. I'd
like to print our own photo QSL and eyeball/farm cards at home since we keep
tweaking the designs, changing photos, and so on. Presently I'm using a
friend's color laser for basic-type cards but want to try an inkjet photo
printer.
Any suggestions? I would prefer one that uses separate cartridges for
different colors, not just a black cartridge plus a color cartridge. Also I
need to know what type of photo paper to use. We always send our QSLs in
envelopes.
We have our full-color FP vacation cards printed by UX5UOqsl.com a thousand
at a time and are very happy with them, just want to do our own for home
use.
