Hello DXers
Here in VK we have introduced like a few other countries the Foundation
Licence.
http://www.wia.org.au/foundation/
This new Foundation licence lets the user operate on 2mx, 70cm, 28mhz,
21mhz, 7 mhz and 3.5 mhz bands
with a output power of 10 watts SSB. On 80mx operation in the "VK DX Window
3.776 - 3.800 is NOT ALLOWED"
Operation on 20mx and 160mx is also NOT ALLOWED.
To help identify the NEW Foundation Licence a new callsign block of 4
letters was chosen
eg.. VK*F***
Even if you are on one of Australia's Islands (vk9 or vk0 ) this callsign
block still apply's if you hold a Foundation Licence
Alot of the new foundation licensee's do not know of QRZ.COM as yet so
thats why their callsign does not appear.
To check the current mailing address of any VK the link to the ACMA
Database which is "live" is below
make sure you select "licences" in the "find" drop down box, and in the
last box the call you want. eg vk9flhi
http://web.acma.gov.au/pls/radcom/register_search.main_page
The address shown is not necessarily the qsl route, but its where his or
her licence goes to, so your qsl has a good route too.!!
Hope this information is of use to all, and if you could please help pass
this onto your local radio clubs and members.
Note... A lot of the NEW Foundation members are young Men and Women, most
of whos age is below 15
and more surprisingly a lot of "DXers WIFES"
So as you see Australia is sure moving with the times in Amateur Radio,
just recently it was announced the 1000th
Australian Foundation Licence had been issued and Im proud to say even my
wife Elly sat and passed her foundation licence too
and now holds the call of VK3FLEW. (qrz.com/vk3flew)
Kindest Regards
David J. McAulay VK3EW
