I actually rather appreciate that he is making an effort to let people
know not to send him any cards. The ones I have an argument with are
those that don't QSL but are not up front about it on the air or
QRZ/Buck/etc. That being said, hopefully he forwards the unopened cards
to his manager.
On the subject of avoiding band openings... I received a nice
handwritten letter from a ham who had spent time recently in a top 50
African country. He wrote of all the amazing African resident DXers he
worked and the fact that a large number of them avoid being on when
they might attract pileups. His main complaint was poor pileup
behavior, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of the residents are
avoiding QSLing also. Just look at the way V51AS gets skewered via
email on occasion when the fact of the matter is that if you can get
the card into his hands you will get a return.
Luckily for all of us there are lots of resident amateurs, QSL managers
and DX Expedition teams that haven't given up on DX.
Now if the Palos Verdes Sundancers will just come through for us there
will be DX for all the deserving.
