When I got my ticket way back in 1995 (upgraded to general same year), I was taught by my Honor Roll friends that "sending an SASE or GS or IRC with your direct request is the final courtesy if you need the card." Local managers suggested an additional GS for general goodwill and to let the manager use as needed. Frank WB9NOV wanted 5ドル but said it with a twinkle in his eye.
Our web page for Miquelon trips says "You can QSL Paul FP/K9OT and Peg FP/KB9LIE via their homecalls. One old or new IRC is fine, or one greenstamp or euro. Buro cards are accepted. Direct cards received without sufficient return means will be sent back via the buro. E-qsls will NOT be acknowledged. Peg plans on uploading her logs to LOTW."
We still get requests without return postage but not as many as in past years. These requests go to the bottom of the pile and will go back via buro. Might not make the next buro mailing, though.
For my homecall, I received a direct request from an active Brazilian for my semi-rare county. Had extra stuff in it but NOTHING to cover postage. Bummer. He now has an W5 manager....
Anyway, thank goodness for managers (like KU9C) who are willing to send out lots of cards and also share their knowledge. My favorite saying at the moment is, "If you want to play DX, you have to play by the DX's rules," AKA "He's the DX."
Thanks for letting me rant. I'm current on FP cards and behind on buro cards for homecall.
