Hi group,
This is exactly right as I was a former sorter for the "9" buro (NIDXA).
Generally goes like mentioned above
and like this here in the states.
--The call area buros (like "9") would get cards both from ARRL and direct
from other areas like "JA" then have to open &
sort by first suffix letter. (In my case would be "9I").
--Each suffix letter would go into a container (bag) and be given to the
sorters at the club meeting. (second fri of the month.)
Note: If the meeting was special (like W9DXCC) we would not get a bag
that month.
--The sorters would then get their bags there, or if not at the meeting
would have to get from someone that was there.
--The sorters would then take home and sort by individual calls.
Note: "USUALLY" if there were 6 or more cards for the individual call
the cards would be sent out to the individual.
(Unless he/she specified otherwise) If less, would usually hold until
enough were gathered to send with one stamp.
Note: If no envelopes were on file we would "GENERALLY" hold for awhile
and/or try to contact the individual
and let them know they do NOT have envelopes on file.
--As you can see the time here to just get the cards to the individual call
can be from one month to 6 months. Then
the individual has to fill out cards and here the time is unknown for
return.....
--Just as a side note, the last buro cards I got, some dated back to 1998.
<<<<<<<<< BIG NOTE HERE >>>>>>>>>
THIS IS ALL DONE ON A VOLUNTARY BASIS AND NORMALLY THE EXPENSE OF
CONTACTING THOSE WHO HAVE NO ENVELOPES OR
ONLY HAVE A LITTLE LEFT IN THEIR ACCOUNT IS LEFT UP TO THE ORGANIZATION
AND/OR THE INDIVIDUAL SORTER. THE
NIDXA GROUP AND THE INDIVIDUAL SORTERS ARE VERY CONSCIENTIOUS IN THEIR
EFFORTS TO GET THE CARDS TO
THE INDIVIDUALS. THE INDIVIDUALS WHO WANT CARDS NEED TO BE SURE THAT
THEY HAVE ENVELOPES AND SUFFICIENT FUNDS
TO COVER MAILING EXPENSES. AGAIN WE DO NOT GET PAID TO DO THIS AND
GENERALLY LOSE BOTH "TIME AND MONEY".
QSL TIP HERE---
When sending envelopes to the buro be sure it is a sturdy, 6x9, clasp type
and only affix one first class stamp
on the envelope. Send extra stamps/money separate to be affixed by the
sorter as required. (Sounds simple but
had one envelope that had 2ドル worth of stamps affixed on the envelope. Had
to think about that one.)
The system may be slow but given the way it is setup and being a volunteer
service most are very conscientious in
what they do. There are other means that are possibility faster but do
cost $$$. You make the choice.
I hope this gives a little insight to the system and may be somewhat
different in other areas and/or countries.
Tnx agn to NIDXA and the sorters who get the job done for the "9" area
calls and ARRL for the US calls.
