With all respect, allow me to desagree.
One "greenstamp" is *more than enough* to send a first
class air mail letter from the *majority* of the countries on earth.
Of course I know they are a few exceptions, but what use to
be the exception (2 USD), it's now the rule.
And the cause of that is mostly from the wealthy operators, who can aford it
easy. They are the ones who inflated the level, and turn it worst for others,
the majority, who would be pleased if could pay less.

With respect, you are wrong. USD has after the change in US policies declined
with some 30 % here and the bankers here belive it is going further down as
the deficit is increasing.
Overseas airmail ( 20 g ) cost the equivalent of USD 1.5 here. IRC is much
better. You have to pay bank charges to
exchange foreign currency into your local currency so 2 USD is not too much,
at least in this country.
Things may be different in Portugal
