Well we may be lucky, but I still remember and bring up the fact on a
regular basis, the day the US Postal service quit handling air mail. The
premis was that there was no need for the extra expense since "all" mail
would be delivered by air and be there the" next day". That was the promise.
Now its 7ドル.50 for a stupid overnight (if you live in an area that has the
service)letter within the USA. Living here 100 miles from Washington D C , I
dont have that opportunity, they will promise it in THREE days . Mail is
picked up at our local post office twice a day, goes up to Dulles Airport,
where it is sorted and sent out by the next day (maybe). Even mail to my
next door neighbor goes thru this same stupid route. From here, to local PO
to Dulles Air Port, to another nearby PO, to my carrier and back to my
neighbor, in all of 3 days. Back in the days of the 3 cent stamp, the mail
was picked up at my address, sorted at my PO, and delivered the next day to
my neighbor, or put in the local mail box by 3 PM or so that same afternoon.
Lucky? We are lucky they dont send the mail the Timbucktoo, before sorting
it I guess. Too bad the 10 fold increase in postal rates during that period
has resulted in such "good" service. Wonder what the additional 3 cents in
June is going to do to us? .And now there is a big push to discontnue
Saturday service (one of the two days we are normally home and can deal with
mail).
The other day, Sunday, is already a non delivery day, so that means we go all
weekend without service.
