[Dx-qsl] About those IRC's

Bear with me a moment on this one, gang.
As part of the fallout of our thread earlier re:K1B, I've received a couple
of direct emails from a list member who seems, well, pretty upset about
IRC's. To make a long story short, he doesn't understand why domestically
they cost 1ドル.75 yet only buys an $.80 stamp, nor does he understand why some
some overseas postal administrations require more than one IRC for an air
mail letter.
I tried the first time to explain it to him, but obviously I must have done
something wrong (or he thinks I work in the upper administrative levels of
the USPS -- hah!) because I keep getting these detailed diatribes on what a
ripoff the whole thing is & how idiotic the system is. And frankly, I'm
tired of getting beat up over this when I tried simply to explain the whole
thing.
Therefore, if one of the postal types and/or veteran QSL managers on the
reflector could briefly explain why IRC's cost more than the postage they
purchase, and/or why some countries require more than one IRC for letters to
the US, I'd appreciate it.
Please do NOT reply direct to me. If you want to send the info direct to
the list member in question, I will tell you that direct (he's going to be
mad enough at me just for posting the question here, I'm sure!), but that's
as far as I'm willing to go tonite.
Thanks for your time, and good luck in the IARU and/or WRTC tomorrow
morning... er, later today.
