Tony, I don't know what the heck you're talking about or where that riff
came from, but gotta admit, same as Bill, I just love that "transient kiss
in the dark" quip. I'm always looking for those! I thank you, and my Page

I gather from the foregoing postings that there is a high-powered initiative
to populate the amateur bands with highly trained technicians from the
Solomon Islands.. This is great, the same thing is happening here in the
U.K.
Get on the air, have a few c.b. type contacts (great fun from the Solomon
Islands, now that the sunspot minimum approaches), and lose interest,
because
technical knowledge has very little to do with communication any more.
H.F. Amateur Radio these days, whether we like it or not, is contests and
DXing. And without the incentive of DXCC and the permanence of pasteboards,
where is the fun?
This is a generation that knows not Gus Browning, Don Miller or Danny Weil.
And 25 years from now, who will know Martti Laine and Fred Laun K3ZO? Who
will write the history of amateur radio when the hard drives of our
computers
have long hit the trash-can?
Amateur Radio for international understanding. The QSL card is a permanent
record of a transient kiss in the dark.
I give up, can we all club together to buy these guys a few more two-meter
handhelds?
