In Missouri it is up to the county. Once you get away from the city, from
the county guy "there isn't any code", what about the insurance companies?
Watch my lips, "there isn't any code". At least that was the case 20 some
years ago some distance west of St louis.

This isn't true in Minnesota. I wired my whole house including the mast to
the main breaker box to all the outlets, lights and switches. All I needed
was an inspection. I didn't need a licensed electrician. In Minnesota, at
least, one can work on one's own house for electrical, plumbing and heating
without any licensed people, but you do need an inspection.
