Andy is correct.  Mr. Cebik wrote for and -- I believe -- was paid by AntenneX.  But whatever the arrangement, the writings for the magazine became the property of AntenneX, and they can charge for that content.  That is how they make their living.

All material that was offered for free -- and marvelously helpful and interesting material it is! -- is still available for free, thanks to the efforts of the folks at AntenneX.  Look, after W4RNL's death, the site and all its wonderful content could have gone away.  We should thank these guys (and I have no idea who "these guys" are) for making sure the hosting did not expire and the site disappear.

I believed that was how it worked when he was alive too.
He wrote for AntenneX, and some of that was available to subscribers
only, but some of it was available to anyone for free, and still is!
What he wrote was always copyrighted, whether the copyright holder was
W4RNL himself, or his publisher.
His free wrbsite of extensive writings is still there, and STILL free.
