Thanks to everyone for responding. Since traffic is slow, maybe this is a good time to ask some questions.
I joined this list because I am headed into a new experience: a tower. I'm in Cajun Country so there is plenty of humidity, lots of rain, plenty of mosquitoes, and in bad years, plenty of hurricanes :-( ... As I read, I see the precautionaries: aluminum dissolves in concrete, steel dissolves in soil. So it looks like I need to use a hot dipped galvanized steel base section, suspended in concrete but not touching any soil.
In looking at the base pour dimensions, it looks like 3' x 3' x 5' will work though the only way I know to dig down 5 feet is to rent a motorized tree auger or spend a lot of time with a post hole digger. How do you guys do it?
Secondly, how far off the building eaves should the tower itself be ?? Or, how far away from the building foundation should the base section be? When I asked our local buidling codes office, they didn't have a clue.
Finally, I'm told that every crank-up tower is also a tilt over tower. Is that true?
