Perhaps it confuses the issue when we use 50 Ohms in our
thinking. That value, 50 Ohms, is not a natural value, but
was derived during WWII time by experiments with certain
stub vertical dipoles, and also with the ease of transformation
to 200 Ohm Balanced Lines. The standard (?) HF transmission
line, #8 wire about 10 or 12 inches apart, was and is 600 Ohms.
TV Receive lines began as 300 Ohms because it transforms easly
from 72 or 75 Ohm dipoles. So the TRIVIA point is this:
For a good match use RG-6 Coax, 72/75 Ohm, to your dipole,
and let the mismatch, if noticeable, be at the transmitter end.
See what happens. Then pass on what you learn.
