[Antennas] Glass Mount

I have a Larsen KG-144 through the glass antenna (144 mhz) - it has been in
my closet for 5 years (never used) the backing to the adhesive has never
been removed. - I have a few questions;
Should the ability to stick tight to the glass still be ok ?
How far from in-the-glass defroster wires should I mount it ?
I read somewhere that the power limit of these type antennas is low - should
50 Watts be ok?
I don't see many installations of through the glass antennas (might be more
then I think) do they work well ?
The design of my car (VW Passat Wagon) will not allow for a lip
type/hatchback mount, and I do not want to drill any holes...
Any comments about "Through-The-Glass" antennas will be appreciated.
