[Antennas] Elevated Cushcraft R-7?

Hi Dennis,
I have had an R8 installed at my QTH for 5 years. After a rocky start with a
design flaw in the 17/20m trap which Cushcraft corrected, the antenna has
been performing flawlessly. I have it mounted on a 20ft push-up pole,
attached to the side of my house. The base is 10ft clear of the roof-line.
About 30ft of feedline (RG-213/U) is coiled up into a choke at the base of
the R8.
The R8 has 2 traps - 17/20m and 30m - an uses tuning stubs for the higher
bands, The entire length of the radiator is used on 40m. The performance is
noticeably better than that of my previous vertical, a Hy-Gain DX-77A. I
have never owned an R7, but did have an R8 elevated 15 ft. above water (high
tide) in Florida in the 1990's. It was very efficient.
Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Subject: [Antennas] Elevated Cushcraft R-7?
Good evening,
I've acquired a Cushcraft R-7 antenna from a garage sale. It appears
to be complete and in reasonable condition. I knew nothing about it,
but after reading some reviews and the assembly/instruction manual, I'm
interested in experimenting with it.
Since its a half-wave design, it doesn't require a ground radial
system. I am interested to know who may have put their R-7 at some
distance above ground, say on a TV mast on a roof, and if you feel it
was worth the effort to get it up in the air.
		Thanks,
 Dennis
