Hello and HNY to all.
Has anyone built either the Low Profile low band DX Magnetic Radiator antenna described by Russell K5RP in the ARRL Antenna Compendium Vol 2 or the Double magnetic Slot Antenna for 80 metres described in "80 and 160 metre antennas"??
If yes, maybe you can help me, if not you should re-consider them as I have, as a recent on air antenna switch test, proved to me they can work as described (as a great DX low angle, low profile radiator).
If so can anyone comment on one or all of the following:
1. If they are erected near other "electric" type radiators (that is normal dipoles, verticals) is there any interaction between either antenna??
i am thinking that the enclosed loops within the magnetic antenna will be seen as a shorted turn in relation to the electric field of the dipoles and close by verticals.
I can always detune the dipole so it will not interact with the loops, but I will have to introduce relays in each section of a doulble magnetic slot loop antanna to intoduce an open circuit and remove the enclosed loops so as no to affect the other close by "electric" type antennas (if indeed this is a problem, which I imagine will be).
Or locate the loops a distance (more than one wavelength) away from them.
Or is it acceptable to locate them perpendicular (at 90 degrees) to the orientation of the dipole elements, so the magnetic field lines of the dipole are parallel to the loop and therefore should not induce any circulating currents and hence no interaction??.
2. If I build the magnetic loop radiators and they produce a nice bi-directional figure 8 pattern for one antenna and if I build another one with a quater or a half wavelength seperation and have an all driven array (or as a parasitic element, this i doubt will work for such a system) will I get a uni-directional pattern??
3. Or if I put two magnetic antennas in line, end on end (co-linear), can I phase them and get some pattern steering?
I have enough room to put up some 40 metre and 80 metre magnetic loops at a distance from my dipoles, but a 160 metre loop will be close by.
So any thoughts and reflections will be appreciated, thanks from Ron.
