Worse case is a splice of one kind or another at
some unknown location. The usual problems with
water is the coax has abrasions or cuts that let
water in. Whether or not water is a problem
depends somewhat on where the wet spot is, wavelength
wise. Best situation would be if the wetness was
about equal for the entire length. Hint from some
Telcos; put the coax in a flexable tube like that's
sold for plumbing, and put a hair dryer without heat
on the shack end. The hair dryer has to be run
occasionally, not continously. While in USAF
we had RG-17 feeding AT-197 200-400MHz Discones, and
sometimes water would get in at the top and run all
the way down to the end of the coax in the transmitter
building. There wasn't a SWR problem.
End of Trivia.
