[Antennas] J-Pole

I see no reason that properly balanced open wire won't work
well for VHF and UHF. It would be a natural for feeding a
J-Pole. The problem would be geting a suitable balun,
perhaps 4:1, for connection to the radio, which probably is
arranged for 50 ohm coax. The open wire loss, 50 ft at 450
MHz might be as low as 0.5 to 0.7 dB plus the balun loss.
The RG-213 coax loss will run about 2.5 dB for 50 ft.
In years gone by open wire was the prefered feeder for VHF
and UHF TV receiving antennas when the run was longer than
30 or 40 feet. I installed a lot of it during the 1950's
before cable became common.
I recognize that coax is much easier to install and maintain
and that open wire is primarly used for multi band antennas
along with a tuner on frequencies below 30 MHz today.
