Maybe they say that because they don't want to be
more specific. It could be that "unity gain" is
where the gain of Antenna 1 is equal to the gain
of Antenna 2 where both Antenna 1 and Antenna 2
are identical. Seriously folks, gain is a function
of the shape of the radiation pattern, and where
on the sphere the level is measured. Isotropic
is a sphere, free space dipoles are doughnuts,
TV dishes are narrow beams, Yagis are wider beams,
HF Long Wires are all over the horizion.
