It may be that it's a better antenna and picks up
more of everything. Now, I do not recommend the
use of 4:1 baluns because the coax center conductor
is connected directly to one of the ladder line
wires. Always use a 1:1 which is more balanced.
You might try comparing the increase in local noise
level (S units) to distant signals from various
directions and see if they correlate.
