Dear Durwydd,
I belatedly went to your referenced web site to see exactly what you meant
by the DCTL design. That is not what I was expecting, to say the least. I
made the bad assumption that you were talking about a simple folded dipole.
The DCTL design may work - I have no way of knowing. Nonetheless, I would
not go to such complexity in the interests of avoiding a tuner. I love
tuners, have several of them of different makes and designs, and I use them.
My suggestions about measuring the impedance that you find at the
transmitter end of your feedline and dealing with it, still stands.
By the way, after seeing the DCTL diagram, I thought about my favorite
antenna design - the inverted delta. It has excellent low angle radiation
and is much simpler than the DCTL. You may want to look at that as well -
especially if you are thinking of 20 meters.
